Halloween costume. Dress complete.

October 29, 2009

So, for my Halloween costume, I finally decided to go as the Queen of Hearts. 2 lovely sisters that I will be with that evening are going as Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter, so I jumped on board with them! I had a vision in my head of how I want to look,  I was being too picky. But, I gave it a shot. While what has come out is not my exact vision, I’m still pleased with it.

I wanted to do a dramatic gown, Since, hellllllo, I am a Queen. So I bought this ridiculous looking Prom dress for $7. I really should have taken before photos… :( but, I did not. The dres had straps originally, and some beading and weird design up top. So, I ripped away the beading, hacked off the straps, added cut out hearts ( Sort of Marc Jacobs style ;) )

and added some length to the bottom, since I am an Amazon woman and the gown went to my ankles.

After some discussion with other party goers, I started to doubt my gown. Since, I will be on a party bus for the majority of the evening and want so badly to just dance the night away!!! So, I know the gown is going to get tripped over and be all around annoying as the night goes on. So, I brainstormed… What I really would have love to do was make the dress short, and then create some sort of gown to wear over that could be torn away later. Well, the fabric would have cost too much.

So, here’s what I came up with:

at the bottom of the gown on each side their is plain red satin ribbon. when I get annoyed it aides in doing this:

Bam! Short dress with a nice little bustle!

I’m pretty pleased with myself. I know I’m no pro, so I’m not even denying the shotty sewing and loose thread showing. But, I wanted something specific that I knew I would find in a Halloween store and attempted something. So, I’m a little proud. Even if I didn’t do it from scratch. Also, this might be the cheapest costume I’ve ever worn. So, that’s a plus too. I’ve been able to stay under $20. Accessories is another story… but still not too pricey.

My Mom made a lot of our costumes as kids, and I feel like she would be pretty stoked on this <3

Thank you, Forever 21.

These came in the mail today.

I had purchased Shoe A, from this post: http://www.krustal.com/2009/09/22/decisions-decisions/

I was so incredibly excited when I got them and wore to the city the following weekend for a longgggg night of dancing on and off of a party bus. Well, I ended up doing very little dancing, and had Jeremy almost literally holding me up toward the end of night. Those shoes were torture. Literally. I thought my feet were going to fall off. I pampered them for weeks after that night…

Needless to say, the shoes were listed to be sold on eBay the following Monday. And I should have sent a personal apology along with them to the person who purchased them.

Anyhow, back to these:

They deserve to be shown again. <333 I can do pumps. Although, these things are STACKED. They feel much taller than other heels I own, so I will surely be over 6 feet tall wearing them :/

I’m so pleased with forever 21 for making these, I really couldn’t justify spending the $100 dollars on the Steve Madden version, presently. But, $24? I can handle that!!!! Thank you Forever 21. I do Love you. Now, add XL to your size runs and jeans above 3o” waist, and I’ll never stray.

Costume Idea #1

October 8, 2009

As Halloween is approaching i’m trying to plan my possible costume. I haven’t been super stoked about any ideas yet. Maybe I will get more excited once I pick something and start to put it together. I hope so…

Well, here is my first idea, and the one I’m most enthused about:

Baby Jane Hudson, from What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

Annex - Davis, Bette (What Ever Happened to Baby Jane)_NRFPT_01

In the movie, “Baby” Jane (Bette Davis) was a huge child star. as an aged woman, she’s completely nuts and in denial that she is no longer the successful, and loved “Baby” Jane she once was. She lives with and cares for her crippled sister Blanche (Joan Crawford), who was a successful actress in more recent years. So, “Baby” Jane is jealous and torments her. That’s the basic story line. Of course it has been a few years since I’ve watched it.

Furniture wishlist.

It’s coming back around. I’ve got the itch to re-do some things, redecorate, replace, repaint maybe even :)
I’m just thinking about changing the wall color in the bedroom, and adding some wall color in the kitchen and entry way.

On my list of furniture (which I have begun patrolling craigslist for) is:

A table and chairs, OR just a table to start with, something I could paint would be fun.

A Round coffee table, preferably a decent looking wood of some sort.  the one pictured above is PERFECT. That’s even my same rug.

20090321012705
A Queen size head board, and someone to help me fix my be frame because I plopped down on my bed yet again, and one of the beams cracked in half, yeah that’s right. I Love Big Macs. again, the head board pictured above is PERFECT. ha, I wish, that thing is glorious. I would also love some interior brick walls.

Wish me luck, my budget allows anything free, or under $30, about. :/
