Halloween costume. Dress complete.
So, for my Halloween costume, I finally decided to go as the Queen of Hearts. 2 lovely sisters that I will be with that evening are going as Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter, so I jumped on board with them! I had a vision in my head of how I want to look, I was being too picky. But, I gave it a shot. While what has come out is not my exact vision, I’m still pleased with it.

I wanted to do a dramatic gown, Since, hellllllo, I am a Queen. So I bought this ridiculous looking Prom dress for $7. I really should have taken before photos…
but, I did not. The dres had straps originally, and some beading and weird design up top. So, I ripped away the beading, hacked off the straps, added cut out hearts ( Sort of Marc Jacobs style
)

and added some length to the bottom, since I am an Amazon woman and the gown went to my ankles.
After some discussion with other party goers, I started to doubt my gown. Since, I will be on a party bus for the majority of the evening and want so badly to just dance the night away!!! So, I know the gown is going to get tripped over and be all around annoying as the night goes on. So, I brainstormed… What I really would have love to do was make the dress short, and then create some sort of gown to wear over that could be torn away later. Well, the fabric would have cost too much.
So, here’s what I came up with:

at the bottom of the gown on each side their is plain red satin ribbon. when I get annoyed it aides in doing this:

Bam! Short dress with a nice little bustle!
I’m pretty pleased with myself. I know I’m no pro, so I’m not even denying the shotty sewing and loose thread showing. But, I wanted something specific that I knew I would find in a Halloween store and attempted something. So, I’m a little proud. Even if I didn’t do it from scratch. Also, this might be the cheapest costume I’ve ever worn. So, that’s a plus too. I’ve been able to stay under $20. Accessories is another story… but still not too pricey.
My Mom made a lot of our costumes as kids, and I feel like she would be pretty stoked on this <3

I love it. LOVE IT.
i am so absolutely amazed by what you were able to do. like you should go on project runway or something cuz you have TALENT. i can’t wait to see this in person!!!
[...] My favorite might have been Han Solo. I love group costumes! It’s always so much more fun. My Queen of Hearts dress was also a fav to put together. I posted about it here: http://stitches.krustal.com/2009/10/29/halloween-costume-dress-complete/ [...]
