A recap of recent creations.
Just separate post to showcase some of the recent felt creations I had worked on for the party. See the party post HERE. I don’t have pics of EVERYTHING yet. But this is most of them. Some items will be available in my Etsy shop later today.
There are a good number of tapestry rounds featuring various felt woodland critters (top and bottom left). I think I may list them in sets of 3. Not positive yet. The woodland creature playset (top right) may not make it on Etsy. I may try to do a variation. I just wouldn’t know how to price it yet. It was quite a bit of work. The standing toadstool plaques (bottom right) will be available, as well as all of the hair clips and brooches (center). The clips ended up being a hit. I wish I could have done more. They were all been adopted at the party!
Update! Critter hair clips are available in the shop now!
My niece and nephew turned 1!
This last week my twin niece and nephew turned 1!!! And on Saturday my Sister in law, Emily, threw them a big party! She had come up with the theme for it, maybe a week after having them. So she had been brainstorming for about a year. We talked over the year about putting it together as a team. She let me help with the DIY decor for my oldest nephews first birthday last year. I always have so much fun with anything that involves CRAFTS! So I was stoked she included me in the planning for the twins party this year. We had a blast talking, and shopping and researching and getting ideas (crazy ideas) throughout the year. During the last month we really cracked down and did some WORK! Emily had amazing ideas! Some she admittedly was inspired by other parties or things she had seen around. She was always coming up with things on the fly though. And I loved it. I’m not good at the idea part. But, I love a good challenge. So i would get excited when she was juiced about some new idea, and I in return would get juiced to get to work on it! She debated locations for a bit, and eventually she decided on Coyote Point. It is an awesome park right next to the bay. She reserved 6 picnic tables in a spot that had 2 tables perfect for a couple buffet style food setups. It was a short walk to a huge play structure built just a few years ago called Magic Mountain. It’s giant castle with crazy slides coming off all heights! It’s pretty rad. Anywho, I Thought I’d share pics of the setup. Sadly, I didn’t photograph EVERYTHING in it’s deserving detail. But this is what I got. Hopefully you get the gist.
As guests arrived this is what they saw!
Some detail of the tent. A glittery Happy Birthday banner, cut out by Emily and sewn together by me. A woodland themed heart shaped garland that Emily put together. Inside the tent on all the bars we hung about 15 small tapestry rounds with various felt woodland critters on random fabric colors and prints.
Table 1. Aka, the Truman table. The banner pieces were all crafted by Emily and I sewed them along some ribbon for hanging. This table housed the goody bags, a gift I made that served partially as decor (I didn’t wrap it, but it went with theme), Starbucks coffee, Almonds, carrot sticks, PB&J mini sandos, Snack size pirate’s booty, extra bread, kids milk and chocolate milk cartons, Champagne (yup!), and sangria!
More detail. The glass bottles are from Starbucks bottled frappucinos (which I LOVE) so, Emily bought me a case from Costco. I enjoyed them, removed the labels and ran them through the dishwasher, Viola! Super cute drinking bottles! Emily found the wax paper straws somewhere online. Sorry I don’t have that info. But they were great! Here, you can also see my gift, it’s just a felt woodland animal playset. I made a few felt creatures, and a felt playmat. I also made the standing felt toadstool plaques. There was one on each of the food tables.
Table 2. Or the Sawyer table! Again the banner pieces were put together by Emily and I sewed them onto ribbon for hanging. This table housed CHEESE! Lots of cheese. Emily cubed a ton of different varieties of cheese. There was salami, crackers, fresh bread, grapes, strawberries, olives, cookies, some fancy pastries, truffles, and homemade cupcakes.
some Detail. Emily put together the cupcake plate stands and the grape plate stand out of thrift store bought vases, candlesticks and plates with some hot glue! When I worked at Urban Outfitters, the store designer made these for jewelry displays! It’s a great way to make your own cute little cake plates.
little more detail.
Emily made these terrariums filled with moss, faux trees and various woodland animals. Each table had a different set of animals. I wish I had gotten pics of them all, but like I said I sort of failed at getting appropriate photos of everything. At least I got the foxes! I LOVE them. But, the black bears were pretty darn cute too!
The Birthday twins high chairs for cupcake time! Emily put together all the pieces for these banners and again I sewed them along some ribbon for hanging.
A neat ribbon banner Emily put together. I thought it was in a perfect spot for some photo shoot action. But, we were enjoying to party too much for any photo shoots. oops.
Presents! The wagon was meant to hold the gifts. There was a slight overflow…
And, I Think that’s it for decor. Now, just a few of my favorite moments from the party.
The first to arrive! The guests of honor lead by their big brother, Hud B.
Cake time!!! Emily and I also made the Appliques for their shirts. But, most of the work was done by Emily. I I think I just cut out the toadstools and a little grass for one of them.
I think Truman became a tad overwhelmed… or he hates cake.
Sawyer contently devours hers.
And Hudson had to show this cupcake who’s boss!
Back at home, Truman checks out some critters.
The whole day was really great! I do wish I got more pics or looked decent in any of them myself. But, there’s always next time. I Absolutely LOVED being involved and helping where I could. My Sister in law knows how to throw a serious party. And I love that she let me play and live out some of my crafting dreams through this party for her babies. I wish we could plan parties together for a living. We always have a blast! And maybe go too far. Not even all of our extravagant ideas were used… maybe next time.
I love being an Aunt! I love these kids more than I can even express. They are so much fun to be around. They make me super pumped on life. For real. I Love watching the twins as they are learning to walk and sort of try to figure out their balance. I Love hearing Hudson say “Kust!” (Krust), it’s somewhat of a recent development that he’s really started to say it. My heart melts every time he calls for me.
This weekend was great, and my heart is happy.
Some Felt Ornaments.
Just a couple of the felt ornaments I made this year. I need to get better about documenting my projects. I was pretty excited for all the ornaments I did.
A sewing machine and an octopus.
The octopus was a hit, I ended up making 3 more in various color schemes for all of my girlfriends.
Darth Vader and Storm Trooper for Ryan.
His Birthday is December 12 and it was Star Wars themed. These were perfect to decorate his gift with. And worked out even better apparently since Ryan has his own little Christmas tree. His Dad sent me this pic. Makes me super happy. I Love this kid.
* All ornaments were inspired by other creations. These were not designed by me. None of these are made for profit by me. Just for fun.
A little catch up, part 1: Crib Organizer.
I thought I’d do a few quick posts showcasing a few other projects I have worked on in the past few months but haven’t really discussed here enough. I sort of took an unexpected hiatus from blogging. I just was having issues finding the time while working and hanging out with friends, and sewing.
So here a re a few projects I’ve worked on:
A crib organizer. My girlfriend Laura is expecting a new baby boy in November. Through out her baby shopping she came upon a crib organizer and asked if I’d make her one similar to it, but more suited to her crib bedding. So, we took a trip to the Super JoAnn’s. (It’s perfectly about halfway between her place and my place.) I’ve only ever gone there with her. It’s huge. She brought along pieces of her bedding and this was what came out!
I took these at her house last time I was there. I had been so anxious to see it set up with the crib and the bedding. The organizer is meant to store spare diapers and wipes to have nearby for quickie changes. It was super fun to make. This was really fun to put together, and also really easy. I love little projects my friends come to me with. It’s fun to try out things I wouldn’t come up with on my own, and attempt spread my skills out on different types of little projects.
I don't know what you heard about me…
But a bitch cant get a crumb up out of me I drive a cadillac wear a perm and im a g And im a motherfuckin P.I.M.P
Bought this Singer sewing machine table at My sister in Law’s Community garage sale over the weekend. I’m in love. Been wanting one for awhile. And while they are pretty common and easy to find, sometimes they are out of my budget. And I got it dirt cheap. Con: Thing weighs a ton. legitimately. Fortunately, my sister is a bad ass and helped me lug into the apartment (no dolly!) just straight lifting. We took a lot of breaks and the elevator, but we still both had sore forearms and biceps the next day. It should be fun to move again someday. Next time I will have something with wheels handy.
I Love it. It goes so well in my room. AND, it works. Everything is functioning from what I can tell so far. It still has a needle in it even. Only thing it needs to actually sew is a treadle belt (think that’s what it’s called) which is about $9. Although, I’m worried dewing with it will cause more damage. From my research I’ve found that it is a Singer model number 66, made sometime around 1910-1920. Apparently I can email Singer with the Serial number the machine for an exact date it was made. Kind of RAD. Also, I can still purchase the manual from Singer. Party.
Singer, When I can afford it, I will come to you for my next machine.
Sick as eff: iRetrofone
Super cute.
“The iRetrofone base is made of heavy-duty, half-inch thick urethane resin creating a stable, functional work station that routes voice communications through the included handset.”
Pretty rad idea.
Lots of work, lack of money, trying this Etsy thing out, oh, and a link to a giveaway…
This week has begun particularly rainy, cloudy and gloomy. Very fitting with my mood. Tax day is Thursday, and I owe. Sat with a tax man to help me sort everything out, only to find out that I didn’t even have the funds to pay him to file for me. Sooooo, I have to go back tomorrow morning, after having to beg for money to borrow until payday, ironically on Thursday. Today has been pretttttttty gloomy for me. I was really planning on not needing to ask ANYONE for money throughout this mess I’m in. (losing a roommate and having to take on paying a 2 person lease on my own, my decision, yes, then realizing I will owe on my taxes, and thennnn my Salary being cut by 50%). This may all be too too personal. But, sometimes you just need to VENT! after each thing, I kept telling myself “I’ll figure it all out, it’ll be okay!” Always the optimist, I got hit after hit. I’m officially down on the ground. Hoping to climb back up pretty quickly. I’m sorry, I’m not hoping, I’m doing it.
I have wanted to start an Etsy shop for some time, and what better time to start than now? Exactly. So, I’ve holed myself up inside my apartment quite a bit, and probably will continue to do so until I have a large amount of product that I am happy with.
I opened the shop today, with the most basic simple items I could whip up just get it started. But, I promise I have some great ideas in store. And every second I get to spend on it, I do (sadly my 50% salary cut does not come with a 50% work load cut, so I am still working full time). I love getting to do something I love and the hope that it will possibly turn into something profitable, even if it’s very minor. It is still very fun WORK.
So, check it out:
Please keep in mind that it is still very much a work in progress.
Also, I teamed up with Emily again this month for another giveaway. This month, Strawberries! Check it out, and enter to win!

Reviews & Giveaways: Have a BERRY nice day.
And now, off to the gym for my new favorite class to get some of the ickies out.
