My favorite shorts.

I Love these shorts. They are absolutely part of my everyday Summer uniform. I would LOVE them in black denim! I may have to work on DIY-ing myself a pair.

Starting a list of DIY short projects to tackle!

Scalloped shorts would be so sweet and girly. THIS tutorial is in my list of to do’s.

I just think THESE are plain amazing. And hope to bust out a pair asap.

And, I would LOVE a pair of floral print shorts. I gotta work on finding a good pattern to make a pair!

This week according to my iPhone.

A few things I did this week.

Had drinks at a tequila bar that had the largest collection of tequila I had ever seen. Went to the DeYoung Museum and was lucky enough to attend the symposium for the Balenciaga and Spain exhibit which opened on Saturday (AMAZING)! Went fabric shopping! Drank tea, and ate Gianna’s cookies! YUM. Got my hair did! No More roots! Bought a saw and sawed the legs off my rarely used dining table and made it a much needed coffee table. Scored a sweeeeeeeeet side table/cabinet for free off craigslist to paint! Collected twigs for a few DIY projects.

Not pictured:

-Played with my niece and nephews <3

-Got to try Jambalaya. Never before occurred to me to just order it without shrimp.

-Danced with my friends

- Saw Cirque du Soleil Quidam

-Went to the closing show of SF Ballet’s Coppelia

-Started designing a dress to wear to a wedding I am attending in September!

Spring is going great so far! Minus the rain. I’m definitely getting a fresh start. Making changes around my place, and cleaning things out! Designing new bags, and starting other new exciting projects! I got an extra super duper dose of INSPIRATION while attending some killer events. Cirque du Soleil, the Balenciaga symposium, and the Ballet really got the gears working! B ring it on, Spring! Let’s do this!

New side table project.

Snatched up this adorable side table/ cabinet that I found on Craigslist today! Oh right, for free.

I love free.

I cannot wait to get it painted and in my living room… I am thinking about a purple shade. Now, I need to decide between brighter or grayer, more subtle purples. It’s going to be pretty cute!

I <3 Craigslist finds.

My niece and nephew turned 1!

This last week my twin niece and nephew turned 1!!! And on Saturday my Sister in law, Emily, threw them a big party! She had come up with the theme for it, maybe a week after having them. So she had been brainstorming for about a year. We talked over the year about putting it together as a team. She let me help with the DIY decor for my oldest nephews first birthday last year. I always have so much fun with anything that involves CRAFTS! So I was stoked she included me in the planning for the twins party this year. We had a blast talking, and shopping and researching and getting ideas (crazy ideas) throughout the year. During the last month we really cracked down and did some WORK!  Emily had amazing ideas! Some she admittedly was inspired by other parties or things she had seen around. She was always coming up with things on the fly though. And I loved it. I’m not good at the idea part. But, I love a good challenge. So i would get excited when she was juiced about some new idea, and I in return would get juiced to get to work on it! She debated locations for a bit, and eventually she decided on Coyote Point. It is an awesome park right next to the bay. She reserved 6 picnic tables in a spot that had 2 tables perfect for a couple buffet style food setups. It was a short walk to a huge play structure built just a few years ago called Magic Mountain. It’s giant castle with crazy slides coming off all heights! It’s pretty rad. Anywho, I Thought I’d share pics of the setup. Sadly, I didn’t photograph EVERYTHING in it’s deserving detail. But this is what I got. Hopefully you get the gist.

As guests arrived this is what they saw!

Some detail of the tent. A glittery Happy Birthday banner, cut out by Emily and sewn together by me. A woodland themed heart shaped garland that Emily put together. Inside the tent on all the bars we hung about 15 small tapestry rounds with various felt woodland critters on random fabric colors and prints.

Table 1. Aka, the Truman table. The banner pieces were all crafted by Emily and I sewed them along some ribbon for hanging. This table housed the goody bags, a gift I made that served partially as decor (I didn’t wrap it, but it went with theme),  Starbucks coffee, Almonds, carrot sticks, PB&J mini sandos, Snack size pirate’s booty, extra bread, kids milk and chocolate milk cartons, Champagne (yup!), and sangria!

Some detail.

More detail. The glass bottles are from Starbucks bottled frappucinos (which I LOVE) so, Emily bought me a case from Costco. I enjoyed them, removed the labels and ran them through the dishwasher, Viola! Super cute drinking bottles! Emily found the wax paper straws somewhere online. Sorry I don’t have that info. But they were great! Here, you can also see my gift, it’s just a felt woodland animal playset. I made a few felt creatures,  and a felt playmat. I also made the standing felt toadstool plaques. There was one on each of the food tables.

Table 2. Or the Sawyer table! Again the banner pieces were put together by Emily and I sewed them onto ribbon for hanging. This table housed CHEESE! Lots of cheese. Emily cubed a ton of different varieties of cheese. There was salami, crackers, fresh bread, grapes, strawberries, olives, cookies,  some fancy pastries, truffles, and homemade cupcakes.

some Detail. Emily put together the cupcake plate stands and the grape plate stand out of thrift store bought vases, candlesticks and plates with some hot glue! When I worked at Urban Outfitters, the store designer made these for jewelry displays! It’s a great way to make your own cute little cake plates.

little more detail.

Emily made these terrariums filled with moss, faux trees and various woodland animals. Each table had a different set of animals. I wish I had gotten pics of them all, but like I said I sort of failed at getting appropriate photos of everything. At least I got the foxes! I LOVE them. But, the black bears were pretty darn cute too!

The Birthday twins high chairs for cupcake time! Emily put together all the pieces for these banners and again I sewed them along some ribbon for hanging.

A neat ribbon banner Emily put together. I thought it was in a perfect spot for some photo shoot action. But, we were enjoying to party too much for any photo shoots. oops.

Presents! The wagon was meant to hold the gifts. There was a slight overflow…

And, I Think that’s it for decor. Now, just a few of my favorite moments from the party.

The first to arrive! The guests of honor lead by their big brother, Hud B.

Cake time!!! Emily and I also made the Appliques for their shirts. But, most of the work was done by Emily. I I think I just cut out the toadstools and a little grass for one of them.

I think Truman became a tad overwhelmed… or he hates cake.

Sawyer contently devours hers.

And Hudson had to show this cupcake who’s boss!

Back at home, Truman checks out some critters.

The whole day was really great! I do wish I got more pics or looked decent in any of them myself. But, there’s always next time. I Absolutely LOVED being involved and helping where I could. My Sister in law knows how to throw a serious party. And I love that she let me play and live out some of my crafting dreams through this party for her babies. I wish we could plan parties together for a living. We always have a blast! And maybe go too far. Not even all of our extravagant ideas were used… maybe next time.

I love being an Aunt! I love these kids more than I can even express. They are so much fun to be around. They make me super pumped on life. For real. I Love watching the twins as they are learning to walk and sort of try to figure out their balance. I Love hearing Hudson say “Kust!” (Krust), it’s somewhat of a recent development that he’s really started to say it. My heart melts every time he calls for me.

This weekend was great, and my heart is happy.

Project Restyle: Dotted J.Crew copy.

The cheat:

I swooned over these flats from J.Crew last year.  They are no longer available, and even when they were, they were far too rich for my blood ( I think like $90! For flats!) After stumbling across a photo of them again recently, I decided they’d be great inspiration for a “Project Restyle“, uh, Project! So here’s how the whole project went down:

The Before. beat up black canvas flats. I LIVE in flats, when I’m not wearing boots. And when I find a good pair, I wear them down. These got a lot of use. They had started to look pretty ratty. Before I took this photo I gave them a bit of a bath, let them dry and began:

I did purchase some acrylic paint at Joann’s for .99! The fabric, and craft ribbon I had leftover from other projects. I dotted the acrylic paint all over using an eyeshadow sponge applicator (never use those for eyeshadow anyway), and made a couple quick fabric flowers, and tied some craft ribbon into a bow. Then I used hot glue gun and stuck them on me newly dotted flats.

Viola! The finished product!

I left the sewing machine this afternoon to run a few quick errands. So, I took the opportunity to snap a few outfit photos with my renewed flats!

The other stuff-

Jeans: Seven for all Mankind via Off 5th Ave, Saks outlet.

Undershirts: Hanes and Forever 21.

Sweater: H&M

Scarf: Forever 21

Purse: H&M

Flats! Wild Diva Restyled by Moi!

I <3 PROJECT RESTYLE!

Sorry, J.Crew for copying… Not that I could buy the flats now, anyhow (or then :/) But, I LOVE just about EVERYthing you do. I’m very happy that you marked down the Rimini Cardigan and added an extra 30% off so that I could finally snatch that sweet thang up!

Printable artwork.

So, recently I have discovered the JOYS of printable artwork. All I ever have are photos  or mirrors hanging on my walls (vain much?). After reading a post over at Harper’s Happenings, (this post to be exact: how about yes) I went through all the printable art on How About Orange and found some super cute stuff to print. I later ventured beyond and went on my own quest looking through other sites for high resolution printables (not a real word, I know). I’ve turned into a crazed printing, framing, hanging machine. I have them printed at CVS and I’ve even begun to cut my own matting for some of them, because those can be pricey, and sometimes a matted print looks just so much more, I don’t know, something.

my gear all laid out. the matting making is way easy! I just used an exacto knife and a ruler, while using an actual matte as a guide or tracing one out myself.

a pile. all to be hung after the living room gets painted. Lots of Kukula. I plan to actually buy some of her work as soon as I can afford it. Same goes for any artwork in general. I really am longing for some real paintings or artwork, that does not require hiding behind a sheet of glass. I have a few paintings my grandmother did that I love.  And I have recently purchased a few pieces from Etsy, they will get a separate post. But, I would LOOOOVE to own something by Kukula or Mark Ryden. Someday….

just a few examples, throughout the apartment:
