Whiskey boots and a Navy coat.
Sorry for the overload today. But, I got out and got some decent shots on Friday, and had a hard time narrowing them down.
After work on Friday I went to a Halloween Cocktail party. I did not wear a costume I wore this. But, it’s a bit costume-y with the jacket and boots. Maybe? I had great fun with my homies and had a few glasses of lambrusco and champagne! I Love Champagne. It might be my new drink of choice. Is it ridiculous to order a glass of champagne at a bar?
For my pictures, I pulled into an empty parking lot, propped my camera on the trunk of my car, and went for it. This may be a new regular practice.
I wore my new (to me) Vintage coat that I had purchased off eBay. I’m pretty much in love with it, except that the arms are sooooo short for me
I may try to lengthen them myself. We’ll see if I get the balls to. The Coat is labeled a size 14. However I have no idea what era size 14, it actually is. I think it fits close to a today’s size 8. That’s my guess. Time to brush up on this great post by Elsie over at A Beautiful Mess: How to shop Vintage Clothing and Understand Vintage sizing.
I am a bit new to shopping vintage other than buying Urban Renewal pieces from Urban Outfitters. I have 3 dresses, and only 1 I actually will probably wear. The other 2 are going to be resold. So far, it’s been a bit hit and miss. But, that’s ok, it’s like a game.

Halloween’s past.
I am not dressing up for Halloween this year. So, I thought I’d show off my costumes from the past few years.
2009, Queen of Hearts.
2008, Bride Of Frankenstein.
2007, Han Solo.
2007 (daytime), Doll.
2006, Scary Miss Mary.
2005, Cher (circa 1980′s)
My favorite might have been Han Solo. I love group costumes! It’s always so much more fun. My Queen of Hearts dress was also a fav to put together. I posted about it here: http://stitches.krustal.com/2009/10/29/halloween-costume-dress-complete/
What was a favorite past Halloween costume you wore? Fell free to add pics. Comments should allow for it! I Love seeing people’s costumes!
And now, I’m off for a scary movie marathon (including The Shining, Saw 5 or 6, and a few other picks), by a fireplace with some tasty foods! Ideal Halloween eve evening for me right now.
Halloween costume. Dress complete.
So, for my Halloween costume, I finally decided to go as the Queen of Hearts. 2 lovely sisters that I will be with that evening are going as Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter, so I jumped on board with them! I had a vision in my head of how I want to look, I was being too picky. But, I gave it a shot. While what has come out is not my exact vision, I’m still pleased with it.

I wanted to do a dramatic gown, Since, hellllllo, I am a Queen. So I bought this ridiculous looking Prom dress for $7. I really should have taken before photos…
but, I did not. The dres had straps originally, and some beading and weird design up top. So, I ripped away the beading, hacked off the straps, added cut out hearts ( Sort of Marc Jacobs style
)

and added some length to the bottom, since I am an Amazon woman and the gown went to my ankles.
After some discussion with other party goers, I started to doubt my gown. Since, I will be on a party bus for the majority of the evening and want so badly to just dance the night away!!! So, I know the gown is going to get tripped over and be all around annoying as the night goes on. So, I brainstormed… What I really would have love to do was make the dress short, and then create some sort of gown to wear over that could be torn away later. Well, the fabric would have cost too much.
So, here’s what I came up with:

at the bottom of the gown on each side their is plain red satin ribbon. when I get annoyed it aides in doing this:

Bam! Short dress with a nice little bustle!
I’m pretty pleased with myself. I know I’m no pro, so I’m not even denying the shotty sewing and loose thread showing. But, I wanted something specific that I knew I would find in a Halloween store and attempted something. So, I’m a little proud. Even if I didn’t do it from scratch. Also, this might be the cheapest costume I’ve ever worn. So, that’s a plus too. I’ve been able to stay under $20. Accessories is another story… but still not too pricey.
My Mom made a lot of our costumes as kids, and I feel like she would be pretty stoked on this <3
Costume Idea #1
As Halloween is approaching i’m trying to plan my possible costume. I haven’t been super stoked about any ideas yet. Maybe I will get more excited once I pick something and start to put it together. I hope so…
Well, here is my first idea, and the one I’m most enthused about:
Baby Jane Hudson, from What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

In the movie, “Baby” Jane (Bette Davis) was a huge child star. as an aged woman, she’s completely nuts and in denial that she is no longer the successful, and loved “Baby” Jane she once was. She lives with and cares for her crippled sister Blanche (Joan Crawford), who was a successful actress in more recent years. So, “Baby” Jane is jealous and torments her. That’s the basic story line. Of course it has been a few years since I’ve watched it.
