What I <3 Wednesday: Black and White Stripes!
A quick one! Because I am so sleepy… Keeping super busy over here! Starting to become the norm since the past few weeks. I’ll take it! I am filling orders, trying to stay on top of my shop by adding new designs regularly. I am also starting to plan for an actual swap meet at a car show to sell some bags at with a few other vendors. I am pretty pumped for it. But, I need to work double time to be able to have a good amount of product ready-made to take with me!!!! Wish me luck, bring me food, or remind me to take bathroom breaks… No, really. I forget.
For What I Love Wednesday, I chose Black and White Stripes! I guess it’s an obvious one. But, it was a chance to share a few fun pictures I have found and saved from about the web.
images: room, table setting, couch, boots, Balanciaga bag, Krust bag.
Seriously, Check out the table setting from Martha Stewart Weddings, and tell me that wedding doesn’t look like fun was guaranteed. I know I’m talking about black and white stripes here, but I Love the COLORS in the photo of the bridesmaids.
THAT COUCH!!! I WILL have Black and white striped upholstered furniture one day. I will.
If I could actually find that Balenciaga Bag, I would consider buying it. Okay, not really because I’d have to rob a bank. But, damn. Look. at. it. <3
Feeling re energized.
Well, yesterday I had a hair appointment. I admit I had totally forgotten about it, and am not sure why I had scheduled as early as I did. I was happy with my hair. But, whatever. I didn’t want to cancel on my friend and I had been toying with the thought of losing some of the length I had going. So, I went in, and she chopped. She shortened it by about 4 inches. I am in love with it. I feel ready for Spring and SUMMER. It looks cleaner and feel healthier. While I LOVE long hair, and will be growing it out AGAIN, sometimes a fresh cute makes you feel lighter in way. I know it’s not really short by any means. But, for me it sorta is. But, who knows, maybe next time I’ll go shorter… I did schedule an appointment for early July. Which, again, is super soon. But, this time I have good reason. My Birthday is July 7, and I made my appointment for July 6
Gotta be looking good for the birthday (29!) Maybe I’ll get a mani pedi too!
Floral top: H&M

Heart clutch: Made it the FIRST day I started my little bag making business here!
I have been pretty darn busy over here. This week is flying by! I can’t believe it’s already Thursday!!!!? What the heck. I’m really happy about life these days. My business is progressing well. I have a steady flow of orders, and it feels AMAZING. I am doing this! And, I have recently taken some part time work babysitting for a family I love. So, my head isn’t as crazy thinking about money. Things are really balancing out more and more. I have REALLY exciting things lined up. SOOOO many bag designs and things I want to try (but, need the time to!) And 1, possibly 2 events that I plan to take some bags to and sell at. It’s going to be an AMAZING summer! Stay tuned….
What I <3 Wednesday.
I recently stumbled across Lollipops. I love discovering other creative people on the web to get inspiration from. (Also, LOVE how her name is spelled). Fun stuff. I Love the What I love Wednesday posts. And had the perfect post to contribute. In my opinion at least. because I’m so obsessed right now.
What I LOVE: 70′s dress patterns, (and a few capes)
Over the weekend while I wan hanging out with my Sister in Law, she had mentioned she wanted a very specific style dress to wear to a friends wedding that we are attending in September. She had it all pictured in her head. Well it sure sounded that way. I believe the description was something along the lines of above knee skirt, aline shape dress with long balloon sleeves, and a modest neckline. Solid colored fabric with a sheer overlay, with the sleeves only in the the sheer fabric only. She’s always been a 70′s child. I’m pretty sure the first time I met her she was wearing bell bottoms, and ALWAYS had the craziest STACKED platforms. Well, we started to chat about constructing this dress vision she had, and at some point I decided to search for some 70′s dress patterns to use or get design inspiration from. Well, after sifting through a good 2,000 + patterns we had started a bit of a collection on Pinterest. I am now more obsessed with some of these styles of dresses that I was thinking I’d be. I want to make myself (and Emily) a nice collection of 70′s reproduction dresses this year. I can’t wait! I love it all, the sleeves, the ruffles, the necklines, the waistlines. Going to make some LOVELY stuff to wear.
AMAZING.
Fabric shopping for this is going to be so fun.
And we are off…
This week is off to a pretty great start.
Doily clutches in Tan. In the SHOP.
My Monday was pretty productive! I got an early start. I tend to start later and work into the night. But, today I was out of bed by 9 and started getting things done almost right away. I worked to finish a few orders and sent some bags out. It was great that I got the early start since I had a dinner and movie date night planned. Saw Insidious. That was some intense stuff. yeesh. Who am I kidding, I LOVE scary movies. So, the intenser, the better?
I’m pretty excited about today. Lisa is taking the train down to my neck of the woods to work with me! I Love having makeshift coworkers for a day. Lisa volunteered to come cut fabric and hang out. Lisa is being given a sewing machine and wants to learn how to sew some home decor stuff, so it’ll be fun to have her to sew with and maybe learn some new things together. Tomorrow we have some fun things planned:
- Starbucks run (first and foremost)
- Prepare fabric for a few bags I have on my list to make.
- Test out my new Gingher Rotary cutter!
- Work on a few clutches Lisa and I have discussed previously.
- Eat some sort of yummy lunch.
- Break time in the Hot Tub.
That is the plan for Tuesday! Should be a nice day. I can’t wait. On that note. I’m going to sleeeeeeep. <3
A little EBEW roundup.
I was super in love with a lot of great outfits from last weeks Everybody, Everywear Maxi challenge. As I mentioned in my post, I haven’t always been a fan of maxis. But, lately I have been obsessed. And now, after seeing so many great Maxi outfits, I am completely gaga for this article of clothing. MAXI ME!
Here is a quick round up of my favorites!
From left to right, top to bottom:
Jentine from My Edit, that dress is amazing! and paired with the cognac accessories and olive jacket? LOVE it. The whole look is lovely.
Adiel from It’s because I think too much, This whole look is something I could really see myself wearing and I plan to recreate it. And, her vintage woven straw clutch?! I am super jealous of.
Nicole from Graph Paper Heart. Okay, Seriously. The back detail on that skirt is ridiculous. If I could go back in time to find this skirt at Anthro when it was around, I’d probably pay full price. Nicole paid $10. The bargain factor makes me love it even more. And the goth in me LOVES the all black. So pretty.
Amy from Stylish Year. Love her skirts shape! And the twirly-ness of it. And the way she styled it is just gorgeous.
Christine from My Style Pill. Really didn’t think I’d be into a printed maxi, but Hello! this one is super cute, and the whole put together look is really fantastic. I love that jacket.
Toria from Bonafide Style. The color of her skirt, is to die for! I LOVE the coral. And then paired with cream lace and gold accessories. SO perfect. I want to wear it on warm summer night, drinking wine on a fancy patio with little lights strung about.
Linda from Rose a La Mode. Love the Chambray short with her long heather grey maxi. It looks so clean and comfy. I totally want to wear it.
A HUGE Thank you to Linda and Liz for putting together such a fun collective. Which ultimately finally got me to try a maxi skirt! I really love Everybody Everywear and can’t wait for the next one! Although, I’m pretty pumped on my new found love of Maxi skirts and have quite a few looks to recreate and/or take inspiration from.
ps. I really need to find a chambray shirt!
This week according to my iPhone.
A few things I did this week.
Had drinks at a tequila bar that had the largest collection of tequila I had ever seen. Went to the DeYoung Museum and was lucky enough to attend the symposium for the Balenciaga and Spain exhibit which opened on Saturday (AMAZING)! Went fabric shopping! Drank tea, and ate Gianna’s cookies! YUM. Got my hair did! No More roots! Bought a saw and sawed the legs off my rarely used dining table and made it a much needed coffee table. Scored a sweeeeeeeeet side table/cabinet for free off craigslist to paint! Collected twigs for a few DIY projects.
Not pictured:
-Played with my niece and nephews <3
-Got to try Jambalaya. Never before occurred to me to just order it without shrimp.
-Danced with my friends
- Saw Cirque du Soleil Quidam
-Went to the closing show of SF Ballet’s Coppelia
-Started designing a dress to wear to a wedding I am attending in September!
Spring is going great so far! Minus the rain. I’m definitely getting a fresh start. Making changes around my place, and cleaning things out! Designing new bags, and starting other new exciting projects! I got an extra super duper dose of INSPIRATION while attending some killer events. Cirque du Soleil, the Balenciaga symposium, and the Ballet really got the gears working! B ring it on, Spring! Let’s do this!
I wish I could blog from the shower.
I really feel like all of my best ideas come to me in the shower. Or just good thoughts in general. Like everything in my brain makes more sense and things just flow much more freely and quickly while I’m in there. My thought process is so clean and clear. Why is that?
Sometimes I write entire blog posts in my head. Or I’m really able to describe something I’m working on, beautifully. And I get so pumped to get out and get it down. And then I get to my laptop, and it all turns to crap. I’m not much of a writer at all. But, I wonder, if I could record myself in the shower if I could be…
I need a waterproof laptop.
Where do you get your best ideas?
My niece and nephew turned 1!
This last week my twin niece and nephew turned 1!!! And on Saturday my Sister in law, Emily, threw them a big party! She had come up with the theme for it, maybe a week after having them. So she had been brainstorming for about a year. We talked over the year about putting it together as a team. She let me help with the DIY decor for my oldest nephews first birthday last year. I always have so much fun with anything that involves CRAFTS! So I was stoked she included me in the planning for the twins party this year. We had a blast talking, and shopping and researching and getting ideas (crazy ideas) throughout the year. During the last month we really cracked down and did some WORK! Emily had amazing ideas! Some she admittedly was inspired by other parties or things she had seen around. She was always coming up with things on the fly though. And I loved it. I’m not good at the idea part. But, I love a good challenge. So i would get excited when she was juiced about some new idea, and I in return would get juiced to get to work on it! She debated locations for a bit, and eventually she decided on Coyote Point. It is an awesome park right next to the bay. She reserved 6 picnic tables in a spot that had 2 tables perfect for a couple buffet style food setups. It was a short walk to a huge play structure built just a few years ago called Magic Mountain. It’s giant castle with crazy slides coming off all heights! It’s pretty rad. Anywho, I Thought I’d share pics of the setup. Sadly, I didn’t photograph EVERYTHING in it’s deserving detail. But this is what I got. Hopefully you get the gist.
As guests arrived this is what they saw!
Some detail of the tent. A glittery Happy Birthday banner, cut out by Emily and sewn together by me. A woodland themed heart shaped garland that Emily put together. Inside the tent on all the bars we hung about 15 small tapestry rounds with various felt woodland critters on random fabric colors and prints.
Table 1. Aka, the Truman table. The banner pieces were all crafted by Emily and I sewed them along some ribbon for hanging. This table housed the goody bags, a gift I made that served partially as decor (I didn’t wrap it, but it went with theme), Starbucks coffee, Almonds, carrot sticks, PB&J mini sandos, Snack size pirate’s booty, extra bread, kids milk and chocolate milk cartons, Champagne (yup!), and sangria!
More detail. The glass bottles are from Starbucks bottled frappucinos (which I LOVE) so, Emily bought me a case from Costco. I enjoyed them, removed the labels and ran them through the dishwasher, Viola! Super cute drinking bottles! Emily found the wax paper straws somewhere online. Sorry I don’t have that info. But they were great! Here, you can also see my gift, it’s just a felt woodland animal playset. I made a few felt creatures, and a felt playmat. I also made the standing felt toadstool plaques. There was one on each of the food tables.
Table 2. Or the Sawyer table! Again the banner pieces were put together by Emily and I sewed them onto ribbon for hanging. This table housed CHEESE! Lots of cheese. Emily cubed a ton of different varieties of cheese. There was salami, crackers, fresh bread, grapes, strawberries, olives, cookies, some fancy pastries, truffles, and homemade cupcakes.
some Detail. Emily put together the cupcake plate stands and the grape plate stand out of thrift store bought vases, candlesticks and plates with some hot glue! When I worked at Urban Outfitters, the store designer made these for jewelry displays! It’s a great way to make your own cute little cake plates.
little more detail.
Emily made these terrariums filled with moss, faux trees and various woodland animals. Each table had a different set of animals. I wish I had gotten pics of them all, but like I said I sort of failed at getting appropriate photos of everything. At least I got the foxes! I LOVE them. But, the black bears were pretty darn cute too!
The Birthday twins high chairs for cupcake time! Emily put together all the pieces for these banners and again I sewed them along some ribbon for hanging.
A neat ribbon banner Emily put together. I thought it was in a perfect spot for some photo shoot action. But, we were enjoying to party too much for any photo shoots. oops.
Presents! The wagon was meant to hold the gifts. There was a slight overflow…
And, I Think that’s it for decor. Now, just a few of my favorite moments from the party.
The first to arrive! The guests of honor lead by their big brother, Hud B.
Cake time!!! Emily and I also made the Appliques for their shirts. But, most of the work was done by Emily. I I think I just cut out the toadstools and a little grass for one of them.
I think Truman became a tad overwhelmed… or he hates cake.
Sawyer contently devours hers.
And Hudson had to show this cupcake who’s boss!
Back at home, Truman checks out some critters.
The whole day was really great! I do wish I got more pics or looked decent in any of them myself. But, there’s always next time. I Absolutely LOVED being involved and helping where I could. My Sister in law knows how to throw a serious party. And I love that she let me play and live out some of my crafting dreams through this party for her babies. I wish we could plan parties together for a living. We always have a blast! And maybe go too far. Not even all of our extravagant ideas were used… maybe next time.
I love being an Aunt! I love these kids more than I can even express. They are so much fun to be around. They make me super pumped on life. For real. I Love watching the twins as they are learning to walk and sort of try to figure out their balance. I Love hearing Hudson say “Kust!” (Krust), it’s somewhat of a recent development that he’s really started to say it. My heart melts every time he calls for me.
This weekend was great, and my heart is happy.
Some Felt Ornaments.
Just a couple of the felt ornaments I made this year. I need to get better about documenting my projects. I was pretty excited for all the ornaments I did.
A sewing machine and an octopus.
The octopus was a hit, I ended up making 3 more in various color schemes for all of my girlfriends.
Darth Vader and Storm Trooper for Ryan.
His Birthday is December 12 and it was Star Wars themed. These were perfect to decorate his gift with. And worked out even better apparently since Ryan has his own little Christmas tree. His Dad sent me this pic. Makes me super happy. I Love this kid.
* All ornaments were inspired by other creations. These were not designed by me. None of these are made for profit by me. Just for fun.
Grown up, dress up: wedding attendee edition
So, I’m pretty stoked because I get to go to a wedding on Saturday. I LOVE weddings, and I love dressing up. I have only been to about 5 or 6 weddings in my lifetime, most of which I was fairly young. I have not been to a wedding in about the last 6 years. This is the second time I am going to a wedding without my parents. And as I have been preparing what to wear, I have realized that all of the dresses I own are too small for me since I’ve gained weight, and not appropriate for an adult to wear to a wedding. I have been shamefully shopping at Forever 21 and stores of the like for dresses, for years. But It’s a joke, because a forever 21 dress is like a t-shirt on me. But, I buy dresses to wear out on the town dancing in. Not to fancy events, until now. So, I have been on the hunt for the right dress to wear.
I originally planned to order a dress from Topshop. I saw this dress over a month ago, and thought about it for a bit, and then decided when I got paid LAST month I would order it.
In my head, it was perfect. A little old Hollywood glam, even. I worried what it might look like on my body a bit. Well, I put it off and eventually got completely sidetracked. And then Monday when I realized that I had nothing to wear it was way too late to order it. So, I’ve been on the hunt.
I tried these dress on yesterday.
This was nice, and simple enough. But, I wasn’t tooooo fond of the green on me for this particular type of thing. Wish it was in another color.
THIS! I loved the style, shape, and feel of it. It shaped my body sort of perfectly. the bunching in the stomach is great on the tum tum too. But this print and the colors, I could not get behind for an October outdoor, afternoon wedding. I hope to find this dress again someday, in other color options. Help me find one!
My sister-in-law very graciously, offered up a few of her dresses for me to try. One of which is my backup dress. It’s a black H&M dress, that might be too short for bare legs, and too hot to wear in the afternoon with tights. hmmmmm…
I know I’m being picky. I can’t help it though. I have this vision in my head of what I’d like to wear. Something Navy or mauve, that’s knee length or just above the knee. Also, I have these taupe pumps that I’d really like to wear!
One final hunting trip tonight. wish me luck. Secretly, I’m having a lot of fun!
I still want to buy the Topshop dress. Maybe I can wear it to a wedding I’m attending next year? lol
