Grown up, dress up: wedding attendee edition
So, I’m pretty stoked because I get to go to a wedding on Saturday. I LOVE weddings, and I love dressing up. I have only been to about 5 or 6 weddings in my lifetime, most of which I was fairly young. I have not been to a wedding in about the last 6 years. This is the second time I am going to a wedding without my parents. And as I have been preparing what to wear, I have realized that all of the dresses I own are too small for me since I’ve gained weight, and not appropriate for an adult to wear to a wedding. I have been shamefully shopping at Forever 21 and stores of the like for dresses, for years. But It’s a joke, because a forever 21 dress is like a t-shirt on me. But, I buy dresses to wear out on the town dancing in. Not to fancy events, until now. So, I have been on the hunt for the right dress to wear.
I originally planned to order a dress from Topshop. I saw this dress over a month ago, and thought about it for a bit, and then decided when I got paid LAST month I would order it.
In my head, it was perfect. A little old Hollywood glam, even. I worried what it might look like on my body a bit. Well, I put it off and eventually got completely sidetracked. And then Monday when I realized that I had nothing to wear it was way too late to order it. So, I’ve been on the hunt.
I tried these dress on yesterday.
This was nice, and simple enough. But, I wasn’t tooooo fond of the green on me for this particular type of thing. Wish it was in another color.
THIS! I loved the style, shape, and feel of it. It shaped my body sort of perfectly. the bunching in the stomach is great on the tum tum too. But this print and the colors, I could not get behind for an October outdoor, afternoon wedding. I hope to find this dress again someday, in other color options. Help me find one!
My sister-in-law very graciously, offered up a few of her dresses for me to try. One of which is my backup dress. It’s a black H&M dress, that might be too short for bare legs, and too hot to wear in the afternoon with tights. hmmmmm…
I know I’m being picky. I can’t help it though. I have this vision in my head of what I’d like to wear. Something Navy or mauve, that’s knee length or just above the knee. Also, I have these taupe pumps that I’d really like to wear!
One final hunting trip tonight. wish me luck. Secretly, I’m having a lot of fun!
I still want to buy the Topshop dress. Maybe I can wear it to a wedding I’m attending next year? lol
“As a matter of fact, I rather feel like expressing myself now.”
My sister WAS going to join me for this outfit post, but she changed before I got home and just played photographer. So, hopefully tonight I can catch her before she changes. She always dresses nice. IT would be fun to document it.
This is my outfit from yesterday. Casual and comfortable. Usually what happens when I don’t pick out my clothes the night before. I wake up and just put on whatever will feel as close to pajamas as possible because I’m still half asleep. It’s not the best way to pick out clothes, and I usually regret it as soon as I leave the house and am fully awake. But, yesterday I didn’t regret it. I liked this look.
Something about the cropped jeans and flats with a button up collared shirt felt a little Audrey Hepburn, So I ended up throwing my hair up into a pony half way through the day.
Shirt: Derek Heart via Marshall’s
White men’s undershirt: Hanes via Target
Black Skinny jeans: Old Navy
Flats: Urban Outfitters
Clutch: Forever 21
Next time, I’ll do Audrey right with a black classic turtleneck and some oxfords or even loafers, perhaps.

Peek-A-Boo
I’m really into sheer clothing at the moment. I Love the a little hint of something that looks like it should otherwise be covered, if not for a sheer piece of fabric.
Some Spring 2010 runway looks:
Left to Right: Chanel, Giancarle Ferre, and Roksanda Ilincic.
And, a few looks from Charlotte Ronson’s Spring 2010 Ready to Wear show (I LOVE IT):
Some fun pieces:
kelly bergin chiffon pocket t-shirt at OAKNYC.
LNA Lace Deep V Lace Top at ASOS.
Sleeveless Sheer Back Zip Dress at YESSTYLE
And some items I intend on acquiring (at least something similar to):
Asos Mesh Insert Leggings at ASOS.
(I NEED these! Sadly standard sizes are sold out, and petite is all that left, wtf)
Sheer Mesh cycling shorts at ASOS, And Sparkle and Fade lace biker shorts from Urban Outfitters, however no longer available. I’m on the hunt for something similar…
Unisex Oversized Ringer See Thru shirt at American Apparel.
Costume Idea #1
As Halloween is approaching i’m trying to plan my possible costume. I haven’t been super stoked about any ideas yet. Maybe I will get more excited once I pick something and start to put it together. I hope so…
Well, here is my first idea, and the one I’m most enthused about:
Baby Jane Hudson, from What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

In the movie, “Baby” Jane (Bette Davis) was a huge child star. as an aged woman, she’s completely nuts and in denial that she is no longer the successful, and loved “Baby” Jane she once was. She lives with and cares for her crippled sister Blanche (Joan Crawford), who was a successful actress in more recent years. So, “Baby” Jane is jealous and torments her. That’s the basic story line. Of course it has been a few years since I’ve watched it.
