Project Restyle: Dotted J.Crew copy.

The cheat:

I swooned over these flats from J.Crew last year.  They are no longer available, and even when they were, they were far too rich for my blood ( I think like $90! For flats!) After stumbling across a photo of them again recently, I decided they’d be great inspiration for a “Project Restyle“, uh, Project! So here’s how the whole project went down:

The Before. beat up black canvas flats. I LIVE in flats, when I’m not wearing boots. And when I find a good pair, I wear them down. These got a lot of use. They had started to look pretty ratty. Before I took this photo I gave them a bit of a bath, let them dry and began:

I did purchase some acrylic paint at Joann’s for .99! The fabric, and craft ribbon I had leftover from other projects. I dotted the acrylic paint all over using an eyeshadow sponge applicator (never use those for eyeshadow anyway), and made a couple quick fabric flowers, and tied some craft ribbon into a bow. Then I used hot glue gun and stuck them on me newly dotted flats.

Viola! The finished product!

I left the sewing machine this afternoon to run a few quick errands. So, I took the opportunity to snap a few outfit photos with my renewed flats!

The other stuff-

I <3 PROJECT RESTYLE!

Sorry, J.Crew for copying… Not that I could buy the flats now, anyhow (or then :/) But, I LOVE just about EVERYthing you do. I’m very happy that you marked down the Rimini Cardigan and added an extra 30% off so that I could finally snatch that sweet thang up!

Day 20: The calm before the storm.

The weather here is playing cruel, cruel jokes on me. In the photos below you will see a beautiful, blue, mostly clear sky, and sun beams! Cut to a few hours later and it’s raining. Cut to today and it is pouring. The sky went dark at like 4pm, I kept thinking it was much later than it was.  Not a funny trick on a Friday afternoon at work. Right now, I’m looking out my window and it’s fully dark. All I can see is the street lamps and the reflection of the street lamps, and rain hitting the water on the asphault. I looked up the weather forecast to find nothing but rain for the next 5 days straight. My sis in law menioned that we are to expect about 10 inches.  :( Now really, I don’t mind the rain THAT much. BUT, I do hate driving in the rain.  I like to stay inside when it rains, have a Movie marathon and sew. But, this weekend is busy. And I commute to work.  So, I’m not entirely thrilled about the rain. Maybe I’ll get lucky and it will stop just when I need to drive  or am traveling via Bart and foot to San Fransisco to see the Nutcracker (on Sunday!)

Anyhow, on to the 30 for 30, or 32 for 30, or wherever I am at now. Yeah, I cheated. These shoes do not belong. But,  I was passing by Sister’s closet and she had these out and I casually asked if I could borrow them sometime.  She graciously handed them over. And, I couldn’t resist strapping them on immediately. I sort of love them. I know I could do a much better outfit with them, but yesterday they made a boring, relaxed outfit kind of fun (with the help of my salmon scarf).

I am getting my hair done tomorrow, and I’m sooooo excited. Keeping the length mostly, but dramaticizing the assymetrical-ness, and going a bit lighter. Can’t wait!!!!

Day 14: I LOVE coral!

I’m a little bummed that I fell so behind last week. I got caught up in the holiday, and my high school reunion hoopla, among other things. It’s been a  busy long weekend. but, it was nice and a much needed and longed for break. I’m too tired to update about everything. But, I did a lot. A few notable items:

- Had a fantastic short work day on Wednesday. Boss let us go at 3 to maximize our long weekend! So awesome.

-Made a double layer pumpkin cheesecake

-Ate an AMAZING Thanksgiving dinner, cooked by my Aunt.

-Went to Toys R’ Us and Old Navy ON Thanksgiving at 10pm and Midnight. Passed out before we made it Target, really didn’t care enough to wait in the cold anyway.

- Went to my 10 year High School Reunion. what a trip. But, pretty fun.

-Ate a 2nd Thanksgiving dinner, courtesy of my Dad  (There is yet to be a 3rd… I am going to need all new pants)

-Cleaned and organized my apartment, sent some stuff off to goodwill! (Feels good to get rid of some stuff)

-Put up out Christmas tree!

I also did a ton of laundry, completely overhauled and organized my sewing desk area, and began my Christmas shopping)

And now, it’s back to the work week. It’s always harder after a long weekend.

I am in love with this top. I Love the color. I bought this top literally the day before I started the 30 for 3o. But, for some reason left it out of the original remix. But swapped it in recently :) And now I’m glad.

Today was really too cold to have my feet bare they way they were. I had a coat on all day, but was still pretty darn cold in the morning.

Day 8: I’m, I’m sky high

Monday started a little blah. Because, well, it’s Monday. But, it ended quite fantastically. At the last minute (less than an hour before the game started) Mario and I randomly somehow decided to go to the sharks game. Got tickets super quick and jetted down to the shark tank. It was super fun. Didn’t feel at all like Monday.  The game was GREAT! The Sharks beat the LA Kings 6-3.  I love the excitement of the crowd at Sharks games. Sharks fans are kind of the best. It’s intoxicating to be in the arena with everyone cheering along. It always gets me super pumped!

After the game we grabbed food and Long Islands, and walked around downtown a bit.  I Love Downtown San Jose. It was nice and dead on most streets, and it was fun wandering around a usually bustling area, while it was so empty.

I have been wanting to wear these shoes. But, hadn’t quite had the guts to. I’m still way too insecure about my height sometimes. And, I’m working to get over it! I LOVE tall wedges! Sarah and I bought these at DB Shoes, a discount shoe store. We went one day about a month ago and tried on all sorts of shoes. We both loved these Steve Madden wedges, but neither of us really wanted to spend the $$$, so we decided to go halfsies. It works out nicely since we are living together currently. But, even when we don’t we’ll still share. When we lived apart we still traded and borrowed each others clothes. We’ll make it work. she’ll probably wear them more than I, so I’ll probably let her hang on to them , and just borrow them every once in awhile.

I painted my nails and toes with my sister’s OPI Cherry Blossom nail polish. Love this color! I love Hot pinks next to browns and tans. It’s a favorite color combo of mine.

Tried kicking my leg out to show the wedge . Apparently I can’t balance very well in platforms. Who’d a thunk?

We are having AMAZING weather here, right now. Sadly, it’s supposed to start to get cold tomorrow and rain over the weekend (typical). I really wish I could be out side soaking up the last moments of it. It really is perfect.

My 30 for 30 Remix pieces!

Let the fun begin!

I hope I picked appropriate pieces to get through the month. I’m a tad nervous. Okay, really nervous. But, equally excited.

iPhone outfit post x2

I wore this last week, wasn’t going to post it, I thought it was too boring, but whatevs. I LOVE this vest. hard to see, but it’s salt and peppery knit, and sooo cozy. I sort wish it had sleeves, I would possibly never take it off. My sister let me wear her Seven for all Mankind high waist skinnies. They are very jegging-y. I felt really skinny in them and they totally flatten the tum tum. Fun times.

custom necklace: Piercing Pagoda(I think) via My awesome-o sister back in the day.

This ensemble is from yesterday.Throughout this week I have gotten very relaxed in my outfits. The nights at work have been a bit longer than usual. So, so comfort is key. Also, I really love this yellow cardigan. I had been searching for the perfect one for a while, so that I could copy this outfit. But I did not want to spend very much money. The one in the picture is J.Crew and it wasn’t available anymore, and I’m sure when it was, it was like $100 or something ridiculous.  I ended up coming across this one at Gap for $49. Still more than I wanted to spend, to I kept looking. But, THEN, Groupon had a $50 gift certificate for $25 one day, and I snatched that up, and viola! Sometimes, you just need a little patience. :) deals always come up.

Me and my shadow.

Another busy and long work day. Another gorgeous sunny day outside. I am going to be so relieved when this work week is over. Forecast for the weekend looks like rain. Perfect after a week like this, because I plan to hole myself up in my apartment and sew. I have a lot of fun things lined up to work on.

I mentioned I was planning to wear a dress today, and viola! I did. I bought this vintage dress on eBay just under a year ago, and finally wore it for the first time today. I love this thing. It fits like a glove, and I feel like it really flatters my body’s shape. it’s very fitted in the bust and waist and then has a lovely full (roomy) skirt for ye ol’ hips, thighs, and buns. It’s a great silhouette for a dress, and I don’t own enough like it. In fact it’s the only one…

I paired it with my Urban Renewal Vintage boots from Urban Outfitters. I bought these when I worked at Urban a few years ago. Last time I wore them I realized the sole was completely falling off. Like you could see my sock. I thought it’d be nice to wear them this season, so I took the to have them repaired. Well, now they are sparkling, and I’m so happy.

I was thinking about it. This whole buying vintage and thrift shopping thing is pretty fun. But, there are so many different ways to find items.  I have the most fun with eBay, partially because I love deals, and finding things super cheap makes me ecstatic. (this dress was $5 + $4 for shipping.) I do think it’s great though that people are able to make a business out of reselling special finds. Some people really do just have the eye for it. I don’t, I’ve bought a couple dresses I thought were cute, and once I got them home, I realized I had straight failed.

How do you like to shop for vintage pieces? Do you prefer to troll eBay and thrift shops for hidden gems, or do you like to shop at vintage resellers who pick and choose the gems for you?

Ready for some greyer skies.

I went to pick up my 3 pairs of boots from the shoe repair, and a vintage coat I recently purchased on eBay, from the dry cleaner. I’m beyond excited. My shabby looking boots look great! My bakers and Mossimo mini wedge boots were missing heels. I think I scrape them or just walk too hard. So they were re-heeled, and polished! My vintage tan boots’ sole was loosening to the point were my foot could almost come out, so they were re-soled, and polished! Boy, do I love a good shoe cobbler!

This coat I am ecstatic about. I already have about 3 outfits planned… more to come. eeeeeep! Getting ready for some colder weather.

Make sure you catch me from my good side

Hooray! I Love when I am able to get my sister to snap pictures. She’s quite the photographer! Thank you, Sari! Now, If I can get her to keep her cute outfits on long enough to snap some pictures of her too when I get home from work…

I’m getting really excited with my hair lately (When I actually blow dry and style it somewhat). Kristin, my friend, hairdresser, and miracle worker, put some serious highlights in a couple weeks ago, and then put a semi permanent color over. So, each time I wash, it gets blonder. I want to ease back to blonde since my grey hairs are just too visible for me to bear in my darker hair. Eventually I want a nice ashy blonde (Grey should blend in perfectly, right?) Thank you to my Dad’s genes for getting this whole grey hair thing started nice and early. Not.

Fun shoes for a Friday.

Not much to go along with this. This was what I wore to work on Friday and after work while hanging out with friends. It was a lazy outfit that I attempted to dress up with some wedged booties. I dug it. Shoes really do make ALL the difference.
